The United Kingdom has vowed to work with the Philippines in addressing cyber security apart from the traditional areas of cooperation on trade and investments.
Laure Beaufils, ambassador of the UK to the Philippines, in a televised interview said education, health, maritime security are among the areas that both countries are engaged in.
However, Beaufils said the UK is working on some cross cutting issues with the Philippines, including cyber related issues as well as artificial intelligence (AI).
Beaufils said the UK is looking at growing further its trade with Philippines which “ has never been as high as it is currently.”
She noted there has been “a lot of success stories in terms of British investments into the Philippines just this year. “
She did not elaborate.
Beaufils cited the huge opportunity to work together on technology such as AI.
A number of Filipino companies attended the London Tech Week earlier this year where they had a glimpse of the UK’s 145 tech unicorns, a $1-billion economy in that country.
“We really want to celebrate and create strong tech partnerships. And that involves also investments in science partnerships.
