TV5 Network Inc. plans to shift to a new programming by next year as part of initiatives to achieve profitability.
This would be the second time the network will reprogram its lineup after it rebranded into a sports and news channel through partnership with ESPN in 2017, a strategy to achieve growth through targeting a niche market.
But Jane Basas, TV5 president, said will keep its sports and new programs.
Basas said the company is in the planning stage for the new entertainment program that would be launch by next year.
Basas said the network has improved on a year-o-year basis in terms of losses but still have yet achieve the target to break-even.
“There’s a plan to transform TV5 into a profitable company… We’ve been able to manage the losses.” Basas told reporters in the sideline interview at the Team Sibol a Philippine National esports team event in Makati City yesterday.
Meanwhile, in support of national esports athletes to haul gold medals for the Philippines, Smart launched its “Get Gold!” campaign, which offers cash incentives to Sibol athletes and their coaches and managers for every gold medal won, namely: P2 million cash prize for team events Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, and P1 million cash prize for individual events Tekken 7, Hearthstone, Star Craft 2.
“We are very happy that Smart is joining us in our first outing with Sibol — no less than the 30th SEA Games! With the combined efforts of Smart and their Get Gold! program, as well as our other partners and the whole country, we believe that Sibol now has taken firm root and will be able to face all challenges that come their way on their path to victory,” said Basas, who is also the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Esports Union co-chairman.
Sibol is comprised of veterans in their respective games, united through the battle cry “Lakad Matatag.”
The national team aims for the very top of SEA Games competition.
“This is a huge milestone for esports, and it is our greatest honor to support the best Filipino gamers as they prove that we have the talent, skill, and drive to dominate this increasingly growing scene,” said Alfredo Panlilio, PLDT chief revenue officer and Smart president.
