Toll operators Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) and San Miguel Corp. (SMC), through SMC Infrastructure, are offering toll-free passage for motorists during select hours over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
MPTC said in a statement motorists can enjoy free toll passage on the following expressways — North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-CLark-Tarlac Expressway, NLEX Connector, Cavite Expressway and Cavite-Laguna Expressway — from 10 pm on December 24 to 6 am on December 25 and again from 10 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1.
Last Friday, San Miguel Corp. announced toll fees across SMC’s expressways — the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, STAR Tollway, and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway will be waived on the same schedule.
“Family time is priceless, especially during the holidays,” Manuel Pangilinan, MPTC chairman and CEO, said. “Offering toll-free access is our humble gift to families who wish to maximize their time together.”
Outside of these designated hours, however, standard toll fees will be applicable, MPTC said.
SMC chairman Ramon Ang said: “This is our way of saying thank you to everyone who use the expressways we operate. It’s something we look forward to every year because it helps thousands of motorists get home to their families a little easier, especially during Christmas and New Year.”
To ensure smooth travel experience, the authorities encourage motorists to have their RFID checked to prevent delays at exits.
Motorists are also reminded to avoid tailgating at toll plazas so RFID scanners can read their tags properly.
