Phoenix Pilipinas Gas and Power Inc. has signed a memorandum of agreement with American company Mesa Natural Gas Solutions LLC for the operation of natural-gas fired generator sets in the country.
The agreement will make the genset units available in the Philippines with the corresponding commissioning, training and technical support from Mesa while Phoenix LPG Inc. will supply propane rich LPG as feed-stock.
“Through this valuable project, we will be able to further support the Philippine government’s thrust to broaden our energy mix and move closer towards cleaner energy.
Gas, being available in many parts of the world, will allow us to diversify and stabilize our energy sources as we help the country better secure its energy requirements,” said Henry Albert Fadullon, chief operating officer of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. which is the mother unit of Phoenix Pilipinas.
Fadullon said the move will also pave the way for the use of propane rich liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a transition fuel while the availability of liquefied natural gas (LNG) is still being developed.
Fadullon said gensets from Mesa are compact, mobile and can be custom-engineered to fit the requirements of clients. They also have the capability to be monitored remotely real-time to implement immediate action on-site, if needed.
The parties did not disclose the capacity involved in the partnership but noted Mesa currently has an estimated power generation fleet of 450 megawatts worldwide.
Meanwhile, Phoenix LPG Philippines Inc., another subsidiary of Phoenix Petroleum, has signed a deal with GDR Taxi for the conversion of over 200 registered fuel-powered vehicles in Iloilo City and nearby provinces to auto gas-powered cars.
For the venture, Phoenix LPG partnered with Clean Vehicle Solutions Ltd., a Hong Kong-based company that specializes in fuel delivery, installation and maintenance of LPG equipment to utilize its Prins Technology for the auto LPG converson project with GDR Taxi.
So far, 48 out of the 215 GDR pilot taxi units have been converted into auto LPG-powered vehicles. Conversion is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2020.
Aside from the conversion kit, Phoenix LPG also provides spare parts, product warranty and technical training and support to GDR Taxi for the said partnership.
The company is also set to expand its auto LPG conversion project to other key cities in the country in the coming year.
