Tie-up builds talent pool for data center industry

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines has partnered with the country’s top universities to build the data center talent pool to cement the country’s position in the global digital landscape.

STT GDC, a joint venture of Globe Telecom Inc., Ayala Corp. and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, has collaborated with De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas and National University to spark interest on, and appreciation to, the data center industry among students, providing them with real-world experience and a career pathway within this rapidly-growing field.

“The key to securing the digital future of the Philippines lies in the hands of our youth. This partnership merges the academic expertise of our esteemed university partners with industry insights from STT GDC Philippines, offering an enriched learning journey for students and a fortified future for our nation’s digital revolution,” said Carlo Malana, STT GDC Philippines president and chief executive officer.

STT GDC Philippines said it plans to scale up the program and encourage more universities and training institutions to participate, to create a robust talent pipeline for the country’s data center industry.

Its partnership with top universities shows its commitment to cultivating local talent and fostering innovation in the data center industry, the company added.

As part of the expansion, STT GDC Philippines recently started building the nation’s largest and most interconnected carrier-neutral data center, STT Fairview.

Built to meet international standards, this facility places sustainability at the forefront, incorporating significant carbon reductions, Artificial Intelligence, liquid cooling-readiness and a commitment towards carbon-neutral operations by 2030, the company said.

Projected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 20 percent through 2030, the Philippine digital industry stands to benefit significantly from this initiative.

STT GDC Philippines said it is poised to meet emerging demand and aid customers in achieving their sustainability objectives with the new data center capacity.

The collaboration with top universities aims to enhance awareness of the data center industry, integrate industry-relevant content into engineering curricula and provide practical, hands-on internship programs, the company added. – Myla Iglesias
