Agriculture Secretary William Dar yesterday assured the public there is enough food supply in the country particularly in areas covered by the two-week modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
Dar, in a virtual presser with presidential spokesman Harry Roque, said there is sufficient supply of rice, vegetables, fruit, chicken, and fish to meet the requirements of those living or staying in the MECQ-covered areas.
“Based on our monitoring and analysis of the food supply situation, there is enough supply of food…there is plenty)” he said.
Dar, however, expressed hope cargo trucks delivering the food supply particularly the produce from the provinces in the northern part of Luzon would be allowed quick passage in the checkpoints around Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal amid reports that some vegetable deliveries from Benguet were not allowed to pass the checkpoints.
He said local government units and law enforcers should work together to allow unhampered movement of food.
President Duterte placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under MECQ from August 4 to 18 to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and address concerns of the medical community about the overwhelming of the health facilities.
