The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has issued an advisory for taxpayers who are in areas affected by the Alert Level 3 restrictions imposed amid the increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

The BIR said taxpayers in said areas may file returns and pay their corresponding taxes at the nearest authorized agent banks (AAB) or to the authorized revenue collection officers, notwithstanding their respective revenue district office (RDO) jurisdictions.

“No penalty shall be imposed for the wrong venue filing of returns and payment of taxes,” the BIR said in an advisory signed by BIR commissioner Caesar Dulay, dated Jan. 5, 2022.

For payment through revenue collection officer, the BIR said concerned taxpayers may pay internal revenue taxes in cash and in check regardless of the amount, provided that all checks shall be made payable to the BIR.

The BIR said taxpayers may file returns through eBIR Forms System and pay taxes through the electronic payment facilities.

In a separate bank bulletin, the BIR also said to its AABs in areas under Alert Level 3 to accept all tax payments from taxpayers registered under the RDOs in said areas, including out-of-district returns.

The BIR also ordered them to accept check payments from any taxpayer even without the name of the receiving AAB branch indicated in the check during the alert level 3 period, provided that all check tax payments shall be made payable to the BIR. Angela Celis
