Subic pitched as hub for vaccines, airport dev’t to Emirati companies

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has offered the Subic Bay Freeport and Economic Zone as possible site for coronavirus vaccine manufacture and distribution, wind power and airport development of big companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Wilma Eisma, SBMA chairman and administrator, who was part of the Philippine delegation to the Dubai Expo recently met Orhan Abbas, senior vice president of Emirates-Far East, to discuss plans of developing the Subic Bay International Airport into an alternative hub for the Emirate’s fleet in the Far East.

Eisma said Emirates-Far East, which is one of two flag carriers of the UAE, plans to increase commercial flights from Dubai to the Philippines in the near future.

G42 is looking for local partners to create a joint venture business for the manufacturing and distribution of new coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

G42 is an artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing company that was founded in Abu Dhabi. The company is engaged development of AI industries in the government sector, healthcare, finance, oil and gas, aviation and hospitality.

Eisma also had a separate meeting with Jon Salazar, founder and president of Gazelle Wind Power to consider the Philippines in its plans to explore business ventures in Southeast Asia.

Gazelle Wind Power specializes in wind power platforms that are installed outside shipping lanes, and has offices in Dublin, London, Madrid, Paris and Texas.

The Philippines earlier bagged $580-million worth of investment interest from UAE companies in dairy, renewal energy and manufacturing. – Irma Isip
