Share prices ended up Monday on lack of strong news. The peso closed flat.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was up 13.06 points, a 0.19 percent hike to 7,069.68.
The broader all shares index was up 8.39 points or 0.23 percent to 3,691.25.
Gainers edged losers 99 to 92 with 55 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P8.35 billion.
The peso closed at 54.54 to the dollar, steady compared to its close on Friday.
The currency opened at 54.40 and hit a high of 54.3 and a low of 54.60. Trading turnover reached $1.24 billion.
Mike Ricafort, chief economist at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., said the peso closed flat after investors acknowledged an excessive appreciation is bad for the economy.
Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp., said many Asian markets were on holiday yesterday. The market, however, managed to eke out gains.
Claire Alviar, analyst at Philstocks Financial Inc., said last-minute buying pushed the market to close in the green.
Most actively traded Globe Telecom Inc. was down P38 to P2,042. GT Capital Holdings Inc. was up P10.20 to P506. Universal Robina Corp. was down P5 to P140. BDO Unibank Inc. was down P0.50 to P122.50. PLDT Inc. was up P18 to P1,478. Ayala Land Inc. was up P0.15 to P32.80.
Converge ICT Solutions Inc. was up P0.54 to P19.38. Jollibee Foods Corp. was down P2.40 to P232.60. Robinsons Land Corp. was up P0.18 to P15. DMCI Holdings Inc. was down P0.23 to P12.46.
