The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was up 40.07 points, a 0.64 percent hike to 6,309.57.
The broader All Shares index was up 10.48 points or 0.31 percent to 3,358.70. Losers edged gainers 106 to 79 with 39 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.34 billion.
The peso closed at 55.40 to the dollar, down from 55.38 on Friday. The currency opened at 55.435 and hit a high of 55.40 and a low of 55.52. Trading turnover reached $1.23 billion.
Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp., said investors are gearing up for the last month of the year and did some window-dressing before November closes.
Most actively traded Ayala Land Inc. was up P1.10 to P31. SM Prime Holdings Inc. was up P1.45 to P33.95. International Container Terminal Services Inc. was up P1.60 to P220. BDO Unibank Inc. was down P0.60 to P131.50. Jollibee Foods Corp. was down P3.60 to P234.80.
SM Investments Corp. was up P11 to P845. Globe Telecom Inc. was down P21 to P1,719.
Ayala Corp. was up P5 to P657. Universal Robina Corp. was down P4.10 to P117. AREIT Inc. was down P0.10 to P29.10.
