Share prices ended lower Monday on profit taking.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index was down 46.02 points to 6,628.49, a 0.69 percent drop.

The broader all shares index was down 24.65 points to 4,022.83, a 0.61 percent drop.

Losers edged gainers 103 to 85 with 57 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.39 billion.

The peso closed at 47.695 to the dollar, up from 47.80 on Friday.

The currency opened at 47.75, hitting a high of 47.69 and a low of 47.76. Trading turnover reached $878.5 million.

Japhet Tantiangco, analyst at Philstocks Financial Inc., said investors took profits following a four-day rally.

“Investors booked gains while waiting for the government’s decision with respect to the quarantine measures of the country after May 31, 2021,” he said.

Foreign funds were net buyers worth P56.14 million.

Most actively traded BDO Unibank Inc. was up P1.90 to P103.70. Ayala Land Inc. was down P0.10 to P34.40. Jollibee Foods Corp. was up P1.90 to P192.90. Converge Information Communication and Technology Solutions Inc. was down P0.60 to P19.40. Ayala Corp. was up P15 to P794. Aboitiz Power Corp. was down P0.70 to P22.70. Puregold Price Club Inc. was down P2 to P37.25. SM Investments Corp. was down P10 to P970. JG Summit Holdings Inc. was down P1.20 to P57. Greenergy Corp. was down P0.02 to P3.73.
