Share prices ended down Monday tracking overseas leads. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was down 86.66 points or by 1.4 percent to 6,105.18.
The broader all shares index was down 34.29 points or by 0.94 percent to 3,596.86.
Losers edged gainers 142 to 63 with 44 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.55 billion.
The peso closed at 49.855 to the dollar, up from 49.92 on Friday.
The currency opened at 49.92 to the dollar and hit a high of 49.81 and a low of 49.95. Trading turnover reached $819.22 million.
“Philippine shares dropped 1.4 percent at the start of the week, tracking regional downturn as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
Investors take a cautious stance while waiting for President Duterte’s announcement of the next phase of quarantine guidelines tomorrow,” said stockbroker SB Equities Inc.
Most actively traded BDO Unibank Inc. was down P4.50 to P94. Alliance Global Group Inc. was down P0.22 to P6.50. MerryMart Consumer Corp. was down P0.26 to P3.25. Dito CME Holding Corp. was up P0.03 to P6.50. Ayala Land Inc. was down P0.05 to P33.95. Altus Property Ventures Inc. was up P9.25 to P27.75. Ayala Corp. was down P23 to P762. SM Investments Corp. was down P23.50 P915. Emperador Inc. was down P0.03 to P8.01. Bank of the Philippine Islands was down P1.35 to P69.50.
