Stocks rise, peso down

The local stock market ended the day in the green yesterday as it inched up 0.41 percent.

The peso slightly weakened.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose 26.41 points closing at 6,429.65.

The broader all shares went up 4.19 points or 0.12 percent.

The peso ended at 57.375 to the dollar from 57.36 on Monday.

The currency opened at 57.15 and hit a high of 57.48 and a low of 57.32.  Total volume reached $684.4 million.

“Philippine shares resumed their buying with volumes continuing to pick up, and with investors seeking refuge against China reinstating pandemic restrictions,” said Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital Development Corp.

Half of the counters were in green, led by financials which rose 0.83 percent.

Mining and oil meanwhile bled the most as it dropped 1.76 percent.

Total value turnover was at P5.39 billion.

Decliners, however, still beat advancers 117 to 78, while 41 stocks were unchanged. – Angela Celis
