Share prices retreated on Tuesday as investors locked in profit on caution toward prolonged uncertainty over US trade negotiations and global tariff developments.

The benchmark PSEi fell 65.57 points, or 1 percent, to close at 6,459.47.

The broader All Shares dropped 25.09 points, or 0.65 percent, to 3,807.27.

It’s profit-taking again because the market is just really rangetrading around 6,450 to 6,550, given a prolonged wait-and-see (period due to) the still ongoing, painstaking global trade deals negotiation with the US,” Cristina Ulang, head of research at First Metro Investment Corp., said.

Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital, said investors remained focused on US tariff moves, including new levies on the European Union and Mexico, and were also awaiting key inflation data that could shape policy outlook.

“Some investors are also concerned whether any measures would likely be softened through negotiations,” Limlingan said.

Despite the decline, market breadth was slightly positive, with 98 gainers edging out 96 losers, while 56 issues were unchanged.

Total trade value amounted to P5.9 billion, with 1.65 billion shares changing hands across 60,167 trades.

Foreign investors were net sellers by P.36 million, with total foreign buying at P2.98 billion and selling at P3.3 billion.
