Stocks at 9-mo. high

Share prices ended up Monday as investors continued to bet on reports of the development of possible vaccines against the new coronavirus disease 2019.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was up 8.83 points to 7,178.62, a 0.12 percent hike.

The broader all shares index was up 34.87 points to 4,254.26, a 0.83 percent hike.
Gainers edged losers 147 to 77 with 45 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P11.93 billion.

The peso closed at 48.205 to the dollar, up from 48.23 on Friday. the currency opened at 48.23, an intraday low and hita high of 48.165. Trading turnover reached $425.4 million.

SB Equities Inc. said the market closed to a new nine-month high Monday “amid continued optimism over progress towards a coronavirus vaccine.”

Market-on-close selling on big caps capped the market’s ascent, it said.

Most actively traded BDO Unibank Inc. was up P2.70 to P107.40. Megaworld Corp. was up P0.05 to P4. Bank of the Philippine Islands was up P2.50 to P88.60. Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. was up P1.90 to P49.40. Ayala Land Inc. was down P1.30 to P38.70. AC Energy Philippine Inc. was up P0.59 to P6.39. SM Prime Holdings Inc. was down P0.95 to P38.55.

Security Bank Corp. was up P11 to P122.50. Ayala Corp. was down P15 to P840. Robinsons Land Corp. was up P0.96 to P17.70.
