 Spot market  power prices  mixed in Sept

Initial average price of electricity in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Luzon and Visayas this month September decreased, according to the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) due to lower demand.

In contrast, an increase in price was recorded in Mindanao.

As of September 10, average price per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the WESM for Luzon is at P4.12 which is 25.5 percent lower from full month August’s P5.53 per kWh.

IEMOP said  average demand in Luzon for the period went down  3.8 percent to 9,119 megawatts (MW) from 9,480 MW as average supply increased by 3.7 percent to 13,394 MW from 12,913 MW brining average power reserves higher by 22.9 percent to 429 MW from 349 MW.

Average price per kWh in the WESM for Visayas is at P5.93 which is 4 percent lower from full month August’s P6.18 per kWh.

IEMOP said average demand in Visayas  went down by 1.2 percent to 1,850 MW from 1,872 MW but average supply decreased by 2.9 percent to 2,329 MW from 2,399 MW.  Average power reserves surged by 25.6 percent to 206 MW from 164 MW.

IEMOP said in the Mindanao grid, average WESM price per kWh is at P5.81, up by 20.5 percent from full month August’s P4.82 per kWh.

Average demand in the island for the period also went down by 0.38 percent to 1,834 MW from 1,841 MW while average supply also dropped  11.1 percent to 2,800 MW from 3,151 MW as average reserves improved by 12.7 percent to 124 MW from 110 MW.

The figures presented by the firm for August are still initial and can still change depending on the full-month development.
