Sports complex set for rehab

The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) is spending P88 million for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Balogo Sports Complex in Sorsogon, the largest sports facility in Bicol.

In a statement, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar DPWH said the agency eyes to complete the project in time for the Palarong Bicol on 2021 and Palarong Pambansa on 2022.

“We will ensure the four phases of implementation will be closely monitored to guarantee that the facilities will meet national standards and specifications,” Villar added.

The first phase includes the construction of an 80-meter track and field and 12,000-seater stadium that are targeted to be finished in the third quarter of 2020.

In related development, DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards recently hosted a research symposium entitled “Building the Future towards Sustainable Development” that highlights scholarly and practical initiatives to improve stability and resiliency of built infrastructure.

Now on its 5th year, the Research Symposium held at “Ang Bahay ng Alumni”, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, showcased 10 outstanding research studies with varying topics on disaster resilience, seismic assessment, study of concrete, asphalting, road pavement, slope stabilization, and air cleaning which are supportive to DPWH commitment in providing quality and safe infrastructure.
