President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. warned he will throw out any proposed budget bills that are not consistent with his administration’s spending goals.

In his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Marcos said he would rather have a reenacted budget than tolerate an out-of-line 2026 national budget.

“I will return any proposed general appropriations bill that is not fully aligned with the national expenditure program,” Marcos said.

“I am willing to do this even if we end up with a reenacted budget,” he warned further.

The 2026 national budget is proposed at P6.793 trillion, or 22 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Next year’s budget is 7.4 percent higher than P6.326 trillion this year.
