SMC builds resilient marketplace for Sariaya farmers, fisherfolk
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is set to open a sustainable community marketplace in Sariaya, Quezon that will be jointly managed with residents of its P352-million relocation community dubbed the San Miguel-Christian Gayeta Homes.
The San Miguel Market, the first in Sariaya’s Barangay Castanas, is 95 percent complete and is seen to boost livelihoods of both farmers and fisherfolk in the area.
It will be part of SMC’s planned sustainable integrated food complex that will generate jobs for residents, and boost the economy of Quezon province.
SMC president Ramon S. Ang, said with this, combined with the 3.5-hectare Sariaya fishermen’s dock built earlier, Sariaya can be known as a source of the freshest seafood from the province.
SMC earlier built the community, dubbed San Miguel-Christian Gayeta Homes, to relocate families living in high-risk coastal areas. It features disaster-resilient and environment-friendly homes and is equipped with a multi-purpose area, covered court, livelihood center, day care center and e-library.
Taiwan webinar on digital health solutions calls for healthcare rethink
This week, five medtech brands from Taiwan presented their latest digital health innovations in a webinar organized by TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), Taiwan’s leading trade promotion organization, and Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).
The International Medical Informatics Association is an independent world body that promotes and furthers the use of information science in the fields of healthcare, bioscience and medicine.
The hour-long webinar focused on Taiwan’s strengths and the need to enable and improve the quality of healthcare through technology. Taiwan has a fully digitized healthcare system that interlinks all hospitals, clinics and related government administrations.
Five companies, all winners of this year’s Taiwan Excellence Awards, highlighted various smart medical solutions suitable for health facilities and communities. The product launch featured Leltek’s handheld wireless ultrasound technology, Wincomm’s Medical AI Panel PC, Acer Healthcare’s AI-assisted diagnostic software for diabetic retinopathy, MiiS’s medical image solution, and Apollo Medical Optics’ OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) solution, a non-invasive skin analysis device.
The event attracted almost 300 registrants and attendees, and welcomed online viewers from over 10 countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Italy, France, Iran, Germany and the UK.
Aside from coming up with impressive digital health solutions, Taiwan came up with a dedicated website where it shared its experience and expertise in fighting Covid-19. This website features some of Taiwan’s most advanced and state-of-the-art epidemic prevention measures and smart technologies.
The Asset awards BDO
For consistently finding ways to support businesses and entrepreneurs, BDO Unibank was awarded for the second straight year by The Asset with the Best in Treasury and Working Capital – Limited Liability Company (LLC) in the Philippines.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, The Asset underscored how BDO “demonstrated the ability to offer clients useful technology tools, seeing impressive growth in its e-banking business platform.”
In partnership with BDO, many Filipino enterprises were able to sustain their operations in the past year. Cebu Pacific delivers over 1M COVID-19 vaccines
Cebu Pacific has carried over one million COVID-19 vaccine doses to 12 key domestic destinations to date since March 2021. This adds to the airline’s ongoing collaboration with the government to safely distribute more vaccines across the country.
On May 14, CEB carried 81,400 vaccine doses to Tuguegarao on top of 9,800 for Masbate, while on May 17, it safely flew 4,360 doses to Virac. On May 18, it transported 6,000 doses to Bacolod, 28,800 to Butuan, 46,400 to Cotabato, 28,800 to Cagayan de Oro, 5,000 to Puerto Princesa, and 30,800 to Zamboanga. The carrier has also safely delivered COVID-19 vaccine doses from Manila to Davao, Legazpi, and Tacloban in the past weeks.
The transported vaccines were subject to strict handling guidelines which entail storing them in temperature-specific refrigerated containers to maintain potency and efficacy up until arrival at their designated stations.
To date, CEB has flown over three million vaccine doses, two million of which were picked up from Beijing in coordination with the Department of Health.
World Vision sets 3rd virtual CSR Summit
Leaders from different sectors in Davao are coming together to share learnings from their COVID-19 advocacy projects and programs in World Vision’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Summit in Davao on May 25.
A follow-up event from its first edition in October 2020 and the CSR Summit in Cebu last March 2021, the CSR Summit in Davao will feature industry leaders from the region who will discuss their respective social responsibility projects and campaigns and share how they worked together to help the most vulnerable individuals amidst the growing threat of COVID-19.
With the private sector and partnerships playing a significant and critical role in nation-building, World Vision is mounting the third edition of its CSR Summit to highlight the importance of doing CSR at this crucial time.
The online event, “Doing Good is Good Business,” will be looking into how individuals can contribute to the emerging needs of their community’s most vulnerable, as well as how businesses can provide support to those in need amidst the rising challenges of the pandemic.

Eton Properties transformed its events venue Centris Elements in Eton Centris for Quezon City to vaccinate almost 2,000 of its population.
With Centris Elements’ strategic location, the vaccination site became more accessible to everyone, which in return made it easier for us in the LGU to accomplish our goal of 100 percent QC ProtekTODO.
Medical front liners, seniors and those with comorbidities were vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Eton Centris.
Centris Elements is a 2,000 square meters events venue that catered to social and corporate functions pre-pandemic.
A total of 1,800 QC residents who are medical front liners, seniors and those with comorbidities were inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Eton Centris.
TELUS PH holds virtual run
TELUS International Philippines has launched the TELUS Days of Giving (TDOG) Virtual Run 2021 by empowering its team members to support distance learners while staying fit from the safety of their communities.
The virtual event, which will run until May 31, will benefit World Vision’s Abutin Na10 Campaign, a fundraising drive that aims to support the Department of Education’s (DepEd) study continuity plan through distance learning initiatives that will reach struggling students. Funds raised from this effort will also be used to reproduce self-learning materials and support DepEd’s Brigada Pagbasa Reading Remediation program.
With 2,343 registered volunteers, TELUS International Philippines team has raised an initial P740,250 for World Vision, which will provide over 7,000 printed modules for 7,000 public school students from remote areas in the country. Moreover, the company will donate to World Vision a total of P 100,000 on behalf of the top three site winners, as well as sponsor a student and donate P100 for every team member who finishes their nominated distance category.
