Smart Communications Inc. secured additional 600 permits to build towers in the third quarter, bringing to more than 1,200 the total number of permits issued to PLDT Inc./Smart since processes were streamlined in August.
Globe Telecoms meanwhile has also upgraded its cellsites in 25 barangays from purely 2G/3G into 4G LTE that significantly improved its call, text and data services.
The additional permits issued to Smart will be used to build more towers suppor t the company’s network expansion program for its Long Term Evolution (LTE) and fifth generation (5G) services.
The new permits cover building of towers in Mandaluyong, Las Piñas, Manila, Muntinlupa, Malabon, Valenzuela, Makati, Parañaque, San Juan, Pasig, Taguig and Quezon City; Antipolo and Rodriguez in Rizal; and Puerto Princesa City, Coron, Busuanga, Linapacan, San Vicente and El Nido in Palawan among others.
Meanwhile, Globe’s LTE expansion has primarily upgraded its capacity and technolog y in areas where the signal is slow or non-existent.
Site upgrades were likewise implemented in other locations such as El Nido in Palawan; Botolan in Zambales; Bantay, Ilocos Sur; Buguey, Cagayan; Cadiz City, Negros Occidental; Cabucgayan, Biliran; Isabel, Leyte; Isulan City, Sultan Kudarat; Pandan, Antique; San Fe l ipe, Zamba l e s ; Or ion, Bataan; and Maddela, Quirino, among others.
