San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is expecting delay in the completion of 18.3 kilometers Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project after part of the project under construction collapsed due to a fire incident.
A fire broke at the warehouse of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. in Manila on Saturday morning, February 1, and was declared under control in the afternoon.
SMC said no fatalities or injuries have been reported, but a portion of the Skyway Stage 3 project that is still under construction collapsed.
SMC Infrastructure’s technical team went to the site as soon as the fire was declared under control.
According to initial assessment, approximately 300 meters of the Skyway Stage 3 project was affected. The full extent of damage and its impact to the construction, has yet to be determined.
“We continue to monitor developments and are ready to provide assistance to anyone directly affected by the incident. We also extend our full support and cooperation to authorities as they investigate the cause of the fire,”SMC said.
SMC Infrastructure will rebuild and resume construction at the soonest possible time, with the least delay on the projected completion date of Skyway 3.
