The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) is batting for the issuance of an executive order that would accelerate the improvement of internet connectivity in the country.
In his remarks at yesterday’s SULONG Forum where Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez is guest, PCCI president Benedicto Yujuico took the “opportunity to bring attention to our national leadership proposals to expand internet coverage and improve connectivity in the country. “
Yujuico said an EO on Satellite Access Liberalization will allow internet service providers, including those without congressional franchise, to build their own network using satellite technology for internet connectivity.
He said this is also the fastest means to achieve the goal of wider and faster internet services since bills on Open Access in Digital Technology Act and Better Internet Connection Act remain pending in Congress
The latter specifically aims to make it easier for prospective investors to enter in the broadband market.
“Technology, as we have seen, has and will continue to play a big role in responding to the challenge of survival, recovery, resilience and sustainability,” Yujuico said. –Irma Isip
