SHARON Garin took her oath as secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE) before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Monday morning.
Garin, who served as DOE officer-in-charge, succeeded Raphael Lotilla, who was appointed as head of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources following the “recalibration” of the Marcos administration team.
Garin was also DOE undersecretary from 2022 before she was named OIC.
Garin is a lawyer and certified public accountant with extensive public service experience, “having served as a multi-term Iloilo representative and DOE undersecretary, with a strong background in energy policy and legislation to advance accessible, reliable, and sustainable energy for our people,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro described her earlier.
As a House member, Garin represented the AAMBIS-Owa party-list group from 2010 to 2022. She was deputy speaker from 2016 to 2019, chair of the House Committee on Economic Affairs from 2019 to 2020 and from 2021 to 2022.
