Share prices of select stocks ended higher Tuesday as investors bet on better earnings of companies.
The peso closed down.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index was up 50.27 points or 0.8 percent to 6,362.30.
The broader all shares index was up 18.67 points or 0.55 percent to 3,411.59.
Losers edged gainers 84 to 80 with 61 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.87 billion.
The peso closed at 55.435 to the dollar, down from 55.31.
The currency opened at 55.30, an intraday high, and hit a low of 55.45. Trading turnover reached $777.17 million.
Claire Alviar, analysts at Philstocks Financial Inc., said the market’s uptick was a result of “good corporate earnings result so far, especially from the index members.”
Most actively traded BDO Unibank Inc. was down P1.20 to P112.60. Ayala Corp. was up P21 to P660. SM Investments Corp. was down P11 to P769. Semirara Mining and Power Corp. was up P0.40 to P40.55. Ayala Land Inc. was up P0.65 to P26.10. Converge ICT Solutions Inc. was was up P1.13 to P20.05. SM Prime Holdings Inc. was steady at P37. Security Bank Corp. was down P2.90 to P84. PLDT Inc. was up P73 to P1,728.
