Shares drop on Q3 window-dressing

Share prices ended up Wednesday as investors took to window- dressing as the third quarter of the year closes.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was up 22.63 points to 5,864.23, a 0.39 percent hike.

The broader all shares index was up 7.75 points to 3,528.85, a 0.22 percent hike.

Losers edged gainers 98 to 91 with 49 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P5.48 billion.

The peso closed at 48.495 to the dollar, up from 48.50 on Tuesday.

The currency opened at 48.41 and hit a high of 48.38 and a low of 48.50. Trading turnover reached $726.57 million.

Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital Development Corp., said the market’s uptick was a result of window-dressing.

Limlingan said investors were also glued to the US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden in their first debate.

Most actively traded SM Prime Holdings Inc. was up P0.90 to P29.40. Dito CME Holdings Corp. was down P0.09 to P4.90. PLDT Inc. was down P14 to P1,339. SM Investments Corp. was steady at P880. BDO Unibank Inc. was down P0.25 to P86.25. Ayala Corp. was up P3 to P689. Jollibee Foods Corp. was up P0.20 to P145. Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. was down P0.55 to P38.20. Ayala Land Inc. was up P0.25 to P29.75. Cemex Holdings Philippines Inc. was up P0.17 to P1.65.
