Sales of imported vehicle rise 40%

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) recorded a 40-percent increase in sales in the first four months of the year to 20,353 units from the 14,572 sold in the same period this year.

AVID in a report said sales of passenger car sales rose 16 percent to 5,328 units versus the 4,574 units sold in the same period last year. Month-on-month, sales dipped by 21 percent from 1,372 units sold in March to 1,087 units.

The segment is led by Suzuki with total sales of 2,658 units, followed by Hyundai with 1,798 units sold since the start of the year.

In the light commercial vehicles segment, AVID recorded a 44 percent increase in sales from the 9,906 units sold in 2020 to 14,314 units sold in the same period this year.

Month-on-month, April experienced a 15-percent drop from 3,676 units sold in March to 3,116 units in April. Ford took the lead with 6,023 units sold with Suzuki at second place with 3,732 units, and Hyundai with 2,069 units.

The commercial vehicles segment was led by Hyundai, growing 673 percent, from last year’s 92 units to 711 units sold this year. In April alone, sales doubled to 293 units sold compared to the 145 units sold in the previous month.

Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, AVID president, expressed confidence the group will continue this strong performance till the end of the year.
