Transport network company (TNC) Angkas was successful in stopping government from capping the number of bikers in the motorcycle ride-hailing services during its pilot run but failed to stop the entry of other TNCs.
The Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Quezon City on January 10 granted Angkas’ petition for a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the government-imposed cap of bikers but denied its plea also for a TRO on the entry of two other motorcycle taxis.
Angkas filed on January 6 a petition before the Quezon City RTC Branch 223 asking for the issuance of a TRO against the imposition of a cap on the number of participating riders in the pilot run of the program, and the apprehension of “excess riders” as stated in Section 10 of the pilot program’s revised guidelines.
In the same petition , Angkas also asked the court to issue an order to exclude two other motorcycle ride-hailing service providers WeMove Things/JoyRide and Move It in the pilot program.
Last Friday, the RTC granted a 20-day TRO against the riders cap imposed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board that limited the number of Angkas bikers to 10,000 in Manila and 3,000 in Cebu.
