The Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) will produce commodity industry roadmaps (CIRs) for more agricultural industries after completing a total of 21.
Nestor Domenden, PCAF executive director, said one of the next roadmaps that will be released is on rice.
An attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA), PCAF is an advisory body that aims to ensure the success of the DA’s programs and activities. It is also tasked to establish a nationwide network of agricultural and fishery councils to serve as the forum for consultative and continuing discussions within agriculture and fisheries sector, among others.
Domenden told reporters in a briefing yesterday the rice roadmap which is being finalized.
He said the roadmap will include PCAF’s proposal on how to realize the government’s goal of being 97.5 percent self-sufficient of the commodity by 2028.
PCAF’s existing 21 CIRs are om banana, mango, abaca, cacao, coffee, coconut, carabao, dairy, milkfish, onion, rubber, shellfish, shrimp, seaweeds, tilapia, hog, small ruminants, vegetables, yellow corn, poultry broiler and poultry layer.
CIRs serve as guides on how industries will achieve their goals of inclusive growth through a value chain approach and on how they can increase and sustain yields and incomes, improve farm productivity and enhance farmers’ skills and capacities from 2022 to 2027 and beyond.
