The Philippine Stock Exchange index was up 33.62 points, a 0.54 percent hike to 6,241.68.
The broader All Shares index was up 14.47 points or 0.43 percent to 3,356.44.
Gainers edged losers 94 to 82 with 42 stocks unchanged.
Trading turnover reached P11.32 billion. Foreign funds were net sellers of P1.2 billion.
The peso closed at 56.62 to the dollar, down from 56.595 on Friday.
The currency opened at 56.65 and hit a high of 56.49 and a low of 56.66. Trading turnover reached $1.59 billion.
Asian currencies were muted on thin trading amid reports of China’s stimulus measures to prop up its ailing economy and rising bets of a pause in US interest rate hikes.
A rise in the unemployment rate in the US countered a pick up in jobs growth on Friday, signalling that the Fed may not raise rates at its September meeting.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against six major currencies, was at 104.1 at 0640 GMT, but remained close to its two-month peak of 104.44.
Locally, investors will watch for inflation data from China, Thailand and the Philippines this week, while Malaysia is set to reveal its key policy rate.
Markets in the United States were closed for a public holiday.
Juan Paolo Colet, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp., said investors took their cue from the US jobs data and news that one of China’s largest property developers won a debt payment reprieve from bondholders.
Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp., said the market was also bought up ahead of the local inflation report Tuesday.

SM Investments Corp. was steady at P820. SM Prime Holdings Inc. was up P0.55 to P30.45. Bank of the Philippine Islands was down P1.20 to P105.80. GT Capital Holdings Inc. was down P0.50 to P572. PLDT Inc. was up P14 to P1,190. Ayala Land Inc. was up P0.55 to P28.60. International Container Terminal Services Inc. was steady at P206.
