MPCALA Holdings Inc., a unit of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., (MPTC) yesterday said it has started preparation works for the construction of the Cavite portion of the 45-kilometer Cavite- Laguna expressway (Calax) project, following the recent opening of the first segment.

The company opened the Calax’s first segment, the 10.7-Kilometer stretch that starts from the Mamplasan Entry and the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Interchange, midnight of February 09, 2020.

This portion has been partially opened since October 30, 2019 and Department of Public Works and Highways  (DPWH) secretary Mark Villar did a final inspection with his DPWH team and MPTC executives last December 23, 2019. On partial opening this first segment has already served about 10,000 vehicles daily.

“The end-to-end opening of the first segment of Calax is imperative to reduce traffic congestion in various parts of Laguna specifically Laguna Boulevard and Aguinaldo Highway. Now that all lanes are accessible, it serves as a viable option for motorists given the growing traffic demands in the area,” Roberto Bontia MPCALA Holdings Inc. president and general manager said in statement.

Toll rates for the first segment stood at P47 for Class 1 vehicles (cars), P95 for Class 2 vehicles (buses and small commercial trucks) and P143 for Class 3 vehicles (large trucks or trailers).

After the opening, the company has begun this year the preparatory works to start construction of the second segment from Silang, to Kawit, Cavite.
