PPA sets P2.3B port projects

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has allocated P2.3 billion for the rehabilitation and improvement of eight ports in the country this year.

PPA data showed P1.5 billion will be allotted for ports in Luzon, P760 million in Mindanao and P87.5 million in Visayas.

Projects in Luzon include construction of wharf with breakwater piles and rehabilitation of Port of Claveria in Taggat Norte Cagayan for P 872 million; rehabilitation of Port of Legapiz, in Legazpi Albay for P498 million; and development and improvement of Port of Plaridel in Quezon for P143 million.

PPA said the four projects in Mindanao include extension of R.C. wharf of Port of Cantilan in Surigal Del Sur for P95 million; construction of continuous RORO ramp in Port of Cagaya de Oro for P225 million; upgrading and expansion of Lawigan Port in Bislig Surigao Del Sur for P181 million and rehabilitation of power substation of Port of Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental for P259 million..

PPA profit grew 3 percent to in the first quarter grew 3 percent to P2.58 billion from P 2.5 billion net income reported in the same period last year.Despite the pandemic, PPA said the country’s cargo throughput in January to March this year increased by 1.5 percent to 55 million metric tons (MMT) from last year’s same period of 54.2 MMT.
