The Philippine National Railways (PNR) yesterday unveiled the first six diesel multiple unit railcars that will increase its operational capacity.
The six brand-new coaches are part of the 37 railcars and three locomotives acquired by PNR from Indonesia.
Once deployed, the two train sets will add 18 to 20 trips per day to its assigned routes of FTI-Tutuban and FTI- Malabon.
PNR said the remaining 31 coaches are set to be delivered between this month and February 2020.
PNR recently deployed one Kogane train set, with three coaches from Japan.
The train set has been deployed to the main line from Tutuban up to Los Baños.
The train set can accommodate 81 passengers.
Passengers can enjoy reclining and rotating seats, stowable tables, leg rests, and a comfort room inside the train.
Meanwhile, t he DOTr is on track to complete the PNR expansion with North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project.
The NSCR project — a mega railway network spanning 148 kilometers with 37 stations — is worth P777.5 billion. It is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
