Half of Filipino adults think the economy and their quality of life will improve over the next six months, findings of the Tugon ng Masa (TNM) nationwide survey, an independent and non-partisan poll conducted regularly by OCTA Research and commissioned by Go Negosyo.
The survey showed a slight improvement of sentiment among Filipinos from the last report TNM released in October 2022, an indication pessimism is trending downwards.
The survey, which focuses on adult Filipino views on optimism and pessimism regarding their quality of life and the economy, was conducted from March 24 to 28, using face-to-face interviews on 1,200 respondents.
The report said 50 percent of the respondents think the economy will improve, with 40 percent believing it will be the same. Only six percent said the economy will get worse.
Optimism about the economy within the adult Filipinos increased since the last report which was at 46 percent.
The report said a slightly higher proportion of 54 percent said their quality of life will improve in the next six months while 40 percent said there will be no change.
Optimism regarding the quality of life of adult Filipinos increased since October 2022 from 51 percent. Pessimism decreased from 6 percent to 4 percent.
Optimism regarding the economy is nearly the same for adult Filipinos in urban areas (51 percent) and in rural areas (49 percent).
In terms of gender, optimism concerning the economy is higher in male than female adult Filipinos, with 52 percent and 48 percent, respectively.
Optimism on the economy within the adult Filipinos remain the same in the National Capital Region (46 percent) and Mindanao (43 percent) compared to the data in October 2022.
Balanced Luzon had a slight increase of 4 percentage points while Visayas had a significant increase of 9 percentage points from October 2022 (43 percent to 47 percent and 60 percent to 69 percent, respectively).
Across different major areas, the percentage of adult Filipinos who think that their quality of life will improve over the next six months The highest major area is in Visayas (66 percent), and the lowest is in Mindanao (46 percent). – Irma Isip
