Officials from the Philippines and Thailand met to discuss the strengthening of bilateral ties and attracting more investments from Thailand’s business community.
Thai Ambassador to the Philippines Tull Traisorat paid a courtesy visit to National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan at the NEDA office in Pasig City last Wednesday.
In a social media post, NEDA said among the things they discussed were the interests of Thai and Filipino businesses in expanding into each other’s countries, and investors’ interest in the renewable energy and agriculture sectors.
The officials also talked about establishing more direct flight links between Filipino and Thai international airports.
The Thai ambassador also congratulated NEDA on the Philippines’ progress in achieving the lowest unemployment rate since 2005 and having the highest gross domestic product growth rate in Asean region.
The country’s unemployment rate fell to 3.6 percent in November last year, the lowest recorded since a new method was used to measure the labor force in 2005.
Meanwhile, the World Bank estimates the Philippines will have the highest growth rate in the Asean region for 2023 and 2024.
Balisacan expressed his enthusiasm for the collaborative efforts between both countries, emphasizing how cooperation between Thailand and the Philippines can contribute to the realization of AmBisyon Natin 2040, where all Filipinos enjoy stable, comfortable and secure lives.
