The Philippines will continue to hold dialogues with the United States and Japan to strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
DICT Undersecretary Jeffrey Ian Dy met with Yukio Saita, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Nathaniel Fick, Ambassador at large, Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, Department of State of the United States of America, on the sidelines of the 9th Singapore Cyber Week (SICW).
The three countries discussed critical issues such as CERT-to-CERT cooperation, Open RAN, undersea cables and capacity building.
The officials further confirmed they will continue to hold the Japan-US-Philippines Cyber-Digital dialogue to bolster their trilateral cooperation.
The dialogue is part of the DICT’s strategies laid out in the National Cybersecurity 2023-2028, which is expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation in cybersecurity.
The pivotal dialogue also coincided with the Philippines’ celebration of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, where the DICT led various activities nationwide underscoring the collective responsibility in bolstering the country’s readiness and resilience against cyber threats.
Meanwhile, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, as part of the country’s delegation at the 9th SICW, in his keynote emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the face of the global digital environment, advocating for stronger multilateral agreements.
Uy said securing cyberspace, streamlining digital transactions and promoting interoperability must be priorities.
Such agreements should be integrated into national policies, ensuring they meet international standards while addressing each country’s specific needs and contexts, he added.
“Our focus should be on establishing guidelines and policy frameworks that will enable us to fully leverage the rapid advancements in technology,” Uy said in a statement.
The 9th SICW, organized by the CSA and themed “Trust and Security in the Digital Era,” gathers global leaders, industry experts and academics to explore strategies for building trust and enhancing security in the face of evolving digital challenges.
Following his participation at SICW, Uy will attend GITEX Global in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence in driving economic transformation.
