PH signs contract packages for rail

The government yesterday signed  two extension contract packages for the  North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project — South Commuter Railway Project Section.

The P873.62 billion NSCR System is a 147.26-kilometer railway project  that will connect Clark, Pampanga and Calamba City, Laguna and include 35 stations and three depots. Partial operations will begin in the third quarter of 2026 and full operations in 2029.

Transportation Secretary Jamie Bautista represented the government in signing contract projects S-02 and S-03b with Acciona-DMCI Joint Venture and the Leighton-First Balfour Joint Venture, respectively.

CP S-02 and S-03b involve the 7.9 kilometers railway viaduct and elevated stations at España, Sta. Mesa and Paco in Manila, and the 6.1-kilometer railway -with a 4.7-kilometer underground railway and 1.4-kilometer at-grade railway- and railway station at the Food Terminal, Inc.  that connects to the Metro Manila Subway Project  Senate Station, respectively.

The contract signing kicks off the start of the third phase of the NSCR system and puts all phases of the NSCR system in full swing.

The NSCR  can handle 800,000 passengers daily and will reduce the travel time between Clark International Airport and Calamba City, Laguna, from four hours to two hours.

The contracts signed yesterday will generate 2,000 jobs.
