PCCI, govt collaboration to improve doing business in PH

Business and government yesterday agreed to conduct proactive and collaborative efforts on enhancing the regulatory environment and improving doing business in the country.

In his speech at the general membership meeting in Makati City yesterday, George Barcelon, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) rallied support of both national agencies and local government units in ensuring he efficient delivery of their functions and responsibilities.

Barcelon noted businesses rely generally on services rendered by agencies and its allied partners related to basic and common business solutions, customer services, productivity enhancement measures, community programs.

He said since the enactment of the Ease of Doing Business Act, the PCCI has been a supporter and collaborator of this law.

“(But) For the whole country to prosper and achieve sustainability and competitiveness, it has to be a collaborative effort between concerned agencies and the private sector. As businesses contribute to growth and development of its particular area, they also recognize the critical role these (national) agencies (and LGUs) play,” he added.

Alegria Limjoco,  PCCI honorary chair, echoed Barcelon’s statement saying that “now is the best time for the national government, LGUs and the private sector to push and intensify new directions that are doable and will best serve the welfare of business, the working class and the general public.” “We in the private sector feel the importance of working together with partners in government in aligning advocacy programs and policy proposals for better coordination and implementation of necessary reforms,” she said.

Present at the event were Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, director-general Ernesto Perez of the Anti Red Tape Authority, and Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa of the Department of Health. Irma Isip
