The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to disburse P1 billion as fuel subsidy for qualified public utility jeepney drivers nationwide.
A tripartite memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by DOTr, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Bank of the Philippines for the P1-billion fuel subsidy.
This is to lay the framework and documentation for the immediate implementation of the program upon receipt of the budget from the Department of Budget and Management.
The P1-billion budget for the fuel subsidy shall be divided to the 136,230 qualified and bona fide jeepney drivers nationwide, based on the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law.
In a related development, DOTr also signed a MOA with the Department of Labor and Employment for the turnover of 25 electronic tricycles or E-Trikes to the provincial government of Iloilo.
Another MOA will be signed regarding the turnover of cashless buses in the province — a first outside the National Capital Region. – Myla Iglesias
