The provincial government of Oriental Mindoro has rolled out an economic zone (ecozone) development program to boost its economy.
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) yesterday said Governor Humerito Dolor disclosed to PEZA director-general Tereso Panga the information technology (IT) park in Calapan approved recently by the agency is expediting compliance with the presidential proclamation requirements so it can commence commercial operations within the year.
PEZA said the provincial government has prioritized the establishment of a government center, transport terminal, training facility and other amenities to make the Calapan IT Park a mixed-use development viable to IT-business process management companies.
PEZA added the provincial government has also mapped out locations for upcoming private-led ecozones for project application within the year.
These include the RIL Noah Shipyard, a ship building and ship repair facility in Pinamalayan, and a domestic manufacturing zone in Gloria given its proximity to the existing air and seaports.
PEZA said Dolor is also eyeing an agro-industrial processing zone and an alternative energy development zone with embedded liquefied natural gas facility as the primary source to boost the province’s energy sufficiency and capacity for local manufacturing and inter-regional trade.
PEZA said Oriental Mindoro’s ecozone development strategy–coupled with initiatives on infrastructure and transport connectivity–will contribute to spurring the province’s economic growth and will enhance its overall competitiveness as an investment destination.
