The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) convened leaders of the Philippine Open Government Partnership (PH-OGP) at the DBM office in Manila yesterday to advance its governance agenda ahead of the Asia Pacific Regional Meeting.

In a statement, the Budget office said the OGP aims to promote transparency, accountability and civic participation in governance.

“One of our priorities has been adjusting our national fiscal policies to align with the principles of open governance,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, who is also PH-OGP co-chairperson, said in her opening remarks during the event held in Manila.

The gathering also marked the official media launch of the Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM), scheduled for February 5 to 7.

The APRM, which the Philippines is hosting for the first time since the OGP was established in 2011, will bring together about 700 local and international delegates.

These include heads of state, government officials, civil society leaders and policymakers from across the Asia-Pacific region.

“By bringing together high-level government representatives, civil society leaders, policymakers, as well as our global and regional partners from across the region, we will be able to exchange insights, experiences, best practices and progress on open government initiatives that will create bold impact for the benefit of our people,” Pangandaman said.

The OGP is a multi-stakeholder initiative that includes 77 countries and 150 local governments, representing more than two billion people, and thousands of civil society organizations, the DBM said.
