Odette damage to infra, agri tops P25B

Damage to infrastructure, houses and agriculture of Typhoon Odette has reached P25.26 billion, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

NDRRMC’s situation report as of yesterday bared that damage to infrastructure is estimated at P17.54 billion, affecting 621 structures most of which are government facilities, schools and roads.

Estimate damage to houses was placed at P29.3 million, affecting 606,861 homes, most of which were only partially damaged.

The NDRRMC report said damage of Typhoon Odette to the agriculture sector has reached P7.7 billion.

The weather disturbance affected 4.8 million individuals or 1.25 million families in 11 regions.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) DRRM Operations Center reported a higher estimate of P11.1 billion in damage to agriculture.

The DA attached agency said Odette’s current total cost of damage is equivalent to 252,956 metric tons (MT) of agri goods tended by 389,316 farmers and fishers in 420,465 hectares (ha).

DA said the report captured data from Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen and Caraga.

Bulk of Odette’s recorded damage is from fisheries at P3 billion followed by rice, P2.6 billion; coconut and high value crops, P1.5 billion each; sugarcane, P1.2 billion; livestock and poultry, P535.4 million; corn, P431.7 million; irrigation and agricultural facilities, P411.4 million and; agricultural machineries and equipment, P13.8 million.

Meanwhile, the National Electrification Administration (NEA), said as of yesterday, power connection of 2.56 million households or 68.6 percent of the total affected has been restored leaving the remaining 1.18 million up for restoration.

NEA said of the 33 electric cooperatives (ECs) that already submitted damage reports, total damage to ECs by Odette is at P3.3 billion.

ECs that sustained the biggest damage were Southern Leyte EC at P723 million followed by Bohol II EC at P545.54 million and Surigao del Norte EC at P433.79 million.
