The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said water allocation for its concessionaires has been retained by the National Water Resources Board at 50 cubic meters per second (CMS) until May 15.
At the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public forum yesterday, Patrick Dizon, MWSS division manager for Angat-Ipo operation management, assured there will be no water interruption in the concession areas.
He, however, said consumers may experience low water pressure to control demand and leakages.
“The 50 CMS allocation was retained which is equivalent to around 4.3 billion liters every day and it supplies about 90 percent of MWSS’ daily water requirements,” Dizon said.
Dizon said interruptions may be experienced in MWSS franchise areas due to repair works and not because of insufficient water supply.
MWSS said as of 12 noon yesterday, Angat Dam’s elevation was at 187.12 meters which is still far from the 180 meters normal operating level of the reservoir.
Meanwhile, Maynilad Water Services Inc. also assured there will be no service interruptions within its concession area except for scheduled and emergency maintenance activities.
Maynilad echoed calls for water conservation so that the stored water in Angat Dam can be preserved until the rainy season comes.
The company said it is augmenting water supply by drawing water from other sources such as deep wells, reused water and rivers.
“Even before the El Nino phenomenon set in last year, we have been developing alternate water sources to augment the growing water requirement of customers. These alternate sources are now being fully utilized, so we ask consumers to also reinforce this effort by using water wisely,” said Jennifer Rufo, Maynilad corporate communications head, in a statement.
Manila Water Co. Inc. said it continues to implement water pressure reduction from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and appealed to consumers to practice responsible use of water.
