THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is seeking authority to develop the Batangas-Mindoro 500 kiloVolt (kV) interconnection and backbone project (BMIBP).
In an advisory posted on the Energy Regulatory Commission website, NGCP said the BMIBP will cater offshore wind (OSW) projects promoted by the national government with a potential of 28,000 megawatts (MW).
Project cost is P90.7 billion.
It said the project will encourage the development of renewable energy projects in Mindoro especially those in two Competitive Renewable Energy Zones which have an aggregate capacity of around 343 MW for solar and 710 MW for wind.
The first phase, costing P45.6 billion, involves the development of a combination of overhead transmission lines and undersea/submarine cables from Pinamucan substation in Batangas to the proposed Calapan substation in Oriental Mindoro.
The first phase’s transmission line is designed at 500 kV but to be initially energized at 230 kV. This phase also includes the development of the Calapan 500 kV substation.
The second phase will cost P45.1 billion and involves the energization of the 500 kV overhead transmission lines and submarine cables from Pinamucan to Calapan 500 kv substations and the latter’s full development.
