Searches by international guests for Airbnb stays in the Philippines grew by more than 140 percent in the first quarter of 2022 from the same period in 2021, indicating positive signs of recovery of the tourism industry.
Long stays has also noted a surge not just for foreign tourists but for domestic travelers as well as they embrace remote work.
These findings were culled from data of Airbnb which noted Manila was the most popular destination in the Philippines among both inbound and domestic guests.
Manila was followed by tourist favorites Cebu and Quezon City.
The report said more than 60 cities and towns across the country have welcomed their very first Airbnb guests, reflection of the revival of investments in tourism.
Long-term stays on Airbnb emerged as a popular choice for guests. Long term stays are defined as a stay booked for a period of 28 days or more.
More than a third of local guests stayed at an Airbnb listing to travel and work remotely.
Airbnb data also revealed that travelers are raring to travel to destinations both familiar and lesser-known.
“The blurring lines between travel and living has also led to many travelers continuing to embrace their newfound flexibility. They’re jumping at the opportunity to base themselves in the picturesque destinations in the Philippines, including both popular and lesser-known parts of the country,” said Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb general manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan. – Irma Isip
