Networks claim lead in August

ABS-CBN Corp. reported it sustained its lead in nationwide television ratings in August, while GMA Network Inc. said it kept its lead in urban Luzon and Mega Manila, with the two broadcast firms citing data released by different audience rating firms.

Kantar Media data showed the national TV ratings of ABS-CBN hit an audience share of 45 percent compared to GMA’s 31 percent. Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN led in the urban and rural areas, with a rating of 41 percent versus GMA’s 25 percent in Metro Manila; 36 percent over GMA’s 31 percent in Mega Manila; 41 percent over GMA’s 34 percent in total Luzon; 55 percent over GMA’s 24 percent in total Visayas; and with 52 percent versus GMA’s 28 percent in total Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Nielsen TV Audience measurement data showed GMA registered an average of 31.8 percent total day people audience share in urban Luzon, which accounts for 72 percent of all urban TV viewers in the country, higher than ABS-CBN’s 31.7 percent for August (with August 25 to 31 based on overnight data).

GMA led in the afternoon block with 33.3 percent people audience share, while its rival network got 32.2 percent, and 33.9 percent in the evening block versus ABS-CBN’s 33.4 percent.

With official data from August 1 to 24, GMA tallied an average total day people audience share of 32.4 percent, against ABS-CBN’s 29.1 percent, in Mega Manila, which accounts for 60 percent of all urban viewers in the country. GMA also bagged 15 out of the top 30 shows in Mega Manila’s top programs list.
