The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said that electric cooperatives (ECs) with low electrification rate will be given higher priority in the sitio electrification fund for next year.
The agency’s administrator, Edgardo Masongsong said that from their proposed 2020 budget, P1.162 billion is earmarked for the continuation of the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) to cover 775 sitios across the country that still have no access to electricity.
To determine which power co-op should be prioritized in the program, the NEA chief said that a set of criteria has been established as ECs with electrification level of 74 percent and below but with good project liquidation performance will be given the bulk of the subsidy allocation next year.
Masongsong also stated that other criteria factored in are ECs with problems on peace and order as well as financial liquidity.
“Electric cooperatives with energization level ranging 95 percent and above, based on the 2015 census without growth rate, shall be the least priority for allocation,” he further explained.
