The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) eyes to seamlessly integrate the National ID system within its e-governance initiatives.

In a speech at the 3rd Philippine Identity Summit in QuezonCity yesterday, DICT Secretary Ivan Uy said the agency projects the seamless implementation of the digital national ID will significantly contribute to economic growth in the next 10 to 15 years.
“But beyond the numbers, what matters most is how this tool will serve as the backbone of a truly inclusive digital infrastructure that will define our progress for generations,” Uy said.
Last June, DICT in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority launched the official digital version of the National ID that serves as valid identification for all transactions, like the physical National ID and printed ePhilID.
The digital National ID serves as a key driver toward building a transparent, accountable and efficient government, the DICT said, noting that platforms like eGovPH app give Filipinos ready access to public services.
The National ID eVerify system offers a secure and efficient method for identity verification, featuring advanced facial recognition for real-time matching with the National ID registry, reducing fraud and streamlining verification processes.
Recently, DICT selected HID, a leader in trusted identity solutions, which has partnered with FMC Research Solutions Inc. to integrate their goID Software Development Kit into the existing eGovPH App to deliver an ISO-compliant mobile National ID for the Philippines.
With this, eGovPH is set to become the first ISO-compliant digital government platform in Asia and one of the pioneering initiatives globally to seamlessly manage and enhance the entire citizen experience digitally.
The eGovPH allows Filipinos to store and access their government-issued identity and access a suite of government services on their mobile devices, such as PhilHealth, GSIS, PRC, etc.
To date, eGovPH app has reached 6 million downloads and the government is targeting 10 million downloads in 2024, with the goal of doubling that by 2025. – Myla Iglesias
