THE number of passengers flying in and out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is expected to increase by 11 percent to 2.29 million during this holiday season from December 20 to January 3 from a year earlier, according to private operator New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).
Meanwhile, NNIC said in a statement it is fully prepared to handle the anticipated surge in passenger volume by improving the passenger experience at the terminals. It said it is also working closely with airline companies to ensure more check-in counters are opened and are operational earlier than usual to reduce queuing times during peak hours.
Since taking over management of NAIA three months ago, NNIC has implemented several improvements: additional drop-off and pick-up lanes; new air conditioning units installed across all terminals; upgraded Wi-Fi services; and increased seating and trolleys at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista on Saturday during his inspection of the airport that on Saturday said one of the enhancements at the airport in 2025 is placing the screening machines before immigration counters.
“What we are planning to do next year, instead of immigration first, baggage screening will come first and then immigration. That is one of the enhancements that NNIC and OTS (Office for Transportation Security) will (undertake) to make it more convenient for passengers,” he said. “Christmas is a time for connecting with family, friends, and loved ones, and while this is one of the busiest seasons for NAIA, we are working hard to make the experience as safe and comfortable as possible for all passengers,” said Ramon Ang, NNIC president said in a statement over the weekend.
NNIC encourages passengers to arrive three hours before domestic flights and four hours before international flights, and to check flight updates directly with their airline through official websites.
Passengers are also advised to pack smartly and follow carry-on baggage restrictions for faster security screening.
“We thank the public for their continued trust in NAIA as we work to provide a welcoming experience that reflects the joy and warmth of the holiday season,” added Ang.
