More SM malls to open in Luzon, Visayas

SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI)  three more SM Supermalls are set to open this year, bringing the total number of SM malls in the Philippines to 79.

During the virtual annual stockholders’ meeting on Tuesday, SMPHI president Jeffrey Lim said two of the three new SM malls are located in Luzon — the SM City Daet in Camarines Norte and the SM City Grand Central in Caloocan City. The third mall, located in the Visayas, is the SM City Roxas in Capiz, he said.

Lim made the disclosure in response to a written query from a stockholder during Tuesday’s meeting.

The opening of the three new SM malls, subject to the existing guidelines of the concerned local government units (LGUs) and the prevailing quarantine classification, signifies SM’s strong position in mall development business and attractiveness of the Philippines market to both local and foreign retailers despite the pandemic.

Select SM malls are currently hosts to the government’s vaccination program to help curb the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Globe ensures earthquake preparedness among employees, facilities

Globe continues to foster a culture of readiness for all of its employees and facilities in the event of a strong earthquake by joining the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) last March.

Organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the NSED is done on a quarterly basis to properly assess the readiness, responsiveness, and capabilities of the different companies and institutions should a strong earthquake hit the country.

Employees at Globe’s offices and technical facilities took part in the first quarter NSEd, done virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the alarm sounded off, they immediately exercised the “Duck, Cover and Hold” or the DCH routine, a measure that can potentially reduce injury and death during earthquakes. Evacuation drills were eschewed to keep in line with health and safety protocols.

As the majority of employees are now working from home, Globe made sure to equip its workforce and their households with relevant information. Employees were advised to prepare their own survival kits or Grab N’ Go bags with essentials for emergency evacuations.

Globe also consistently practices Call Tree exercises for proper employee accounting in case of an emergency, crisis, or disaster and has also set up a hotline that employees can get in touch with for assistance.

The company’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) team, a regular participant in earthquake drills by government agencies, conducts an annual integrated earthquake and fire drill in different Globe sites across the country to train and to refresh site personnel on appropriate emergency response.

Globe’s emergency response procedures are guided by its OHS Policy and the OHS Management System under ISO 450001 as part of the company’s enterprise-wide certification on Integrated Management System.

PasaJob, a new app that taps on the Filipinos’ natural penchant for referrals,   makes job referring not just easier but also rewarding at the same time.

PasaJob uses a system of long-chain referrals to reward individuals who are able to successfully connect employers to qualified candidates.

In this process, employers can get connected to a wider pool of qualified candidates as jobs are passed on from one contact to another.

Referrers or individuals that led to that successful hire are rewarded with a percentage of the posting fee placed by employers.

With this referral function in place, PasaJob can be used by any individual – even those who currently have jobs.
