Iloilo City’s power distribution firm More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) said its continued crackdown on illegal connections has resulted to the dismantling of 4,000 jumpers in 42 barangays and encouraged 1,500 more applications for legal power lines.
Ariel Castaneda, MORE Power head of apprehension team, said the streamlining of processes also played a big part in the increase in number of applications.
“We’ve shortened the process even more. As soon as (customers) pass the necessary documents from the City Engineer’s Office like the Electrical Safety Inspection Certificate and pay their bill deposit even if it’s only partial… even for just P1,000, they will be installed an electric meter right away, no fuss,” Castaneda said.
Castaneda said to date, around 1,000 residents who used to maintain illegal connections have received regular connections and their own power meters.
Allana Babayen-on, MORE Power’s legal officer, six violators of the Anti-Pilferage Law have been charged in court.
